After Geralt finally dies in The Witcher 2, he has a choice to make.
Should he keep going?
Or is it time to give up on the game and accept his fate?
In a new interview, Geralt reveals his reasoning behind the decision, and explains why the story is the way it is.
“When I was a child I always wanted to see the world,” he said.
“I didn’t have a choice, but I did have a duty.
I felt that I had to take the chance.
I think that’s why I’ve kept going.
And I think it’s why there are so many people in the world who are happy that I’m still around.”
Geralt says that he didn’t realize at the time that he would one day meet a monster like Gwynevere.
He didn’t know she was a sorceress.
But when he came across the first of the monster’s victims, he saw that the monster was a woman named Elspeth.
He knew he had to kill her.
“She was a pretty little girl with dark hair and blue eyes,” he told IGN.
“She was like a witch.
She was so beautiful.
And when she turned into Gwyna, that was the first time I thought, Oh, I really want to kill this monster.””
So then, I went to Elspeter and she was already dead,” he continued.
“So I killed her.”
Gryphon, a wolf in The Last of Us, was Geralt’s nemesis.
Geralt could have killed her in the first few moments of The Witcher 1, but decided against it.
The game’s story revolves around a quest where Geralt needs to track down the creature that killed his girlfriend.
Geralts last act in the game is to rescue Elspet.
After the Witcher 3’s release, fans started wondering whether or not the series would end after Geralts death.
IGN spoke to Gwytheren as part of our interview series, and the Witcher creator shared a surprising answer.
“I have never decided,” he revealed.
“At least not yet.”
As for what happens after Gwytene dies, Geralts fate has been the subject of debate since the game’s release.
According to The Witcher: The Card Game, if Geralt doesn’t return to his post by the end of The Last Of Us, he will be taken back to the past and killed by the creature.
This was a controversial idea at the start of The Card Games story, which led to the series ending after Geralta’s death in The Card Wars.
Gwythereen is an antagonist in The Cards, and her fate is also an issue.
According the game, if Gwythereen’s fate is changed, then she is destroyed by a fire.
“What happens if Gwen dies?”
IGN asked Geralt.
“Will Geralt go back in time and kill her?”
Geralts answer is a clear “yes.”
“If I’m going to die, I want to die in a way that will be as satisfying as I can be,” he answered.
“If I was to die and be reborn, I would be so happy and so sad, and I would want to make everything better.”
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on March 28.
