A senior government official told NDTV that the government has been “making every effort” to ensure that no medical staff are used in government hospitals.
“The doctors and nurses are used for basic medical work, but when it comes to caring for the sick, they are not,” Dr Manik Sinha, Health Minister, told NDtv.
The official said there is no medical facility for any patients in the state and that “if any doctor or nurse is needed to treat a patient, they will be taken care of in the same way.”
The NDTV report also revealed that in the last year, there has been a rise in hospital admissions in Bihar, which has become the state with the highest number of patients with respiratory infections.
The state has recorded 7.23 lakh admissions since March 2017, the highest among the Bihar states.
According to the Centre for Health Data Analysis (CHDA), Bihar has recorded the highest incidence of respiratory infections in the country in terms of the number of cases and deaths.
The CHDA has found that more than 80,000 people were admitted to hospitals in Bihar in 2016-17.
In the last three months of the year, the number was at 42,800.
